Sunday sees Parma bid farewell to Serie A and possibly the world of football all together, as still no buyers have come forward to save the doomed club, with the final auction less than a week away, the price now sits at 6.7 million euros.
Despite all the doom and gloom, expect a colourful packed out Stadio Ennio Tardini, as ‘The Boys’ campaign for all those who have supported the club over the years to come out one last time to watch the city’s beloved football team. Parma will be looking to put on a show for the loyal fans that have stood by them throughout this nightmare season. Roberto Donadoni’s men will need to be much improved from their last outing as Fiorentina gave them a going over in a convincing 3-0 defeat. Sunday will be the last chance for many of these Parma players to put themselves in the shop window ahead of this summer transfer window, with star goalkeeper Antonio Mirante, and young Jose Mauri already catching the eye of both Milan clubs. As for Verona, they sit in a solid 12th place in Serie A, the evergreen Luca Toni will be looking to add to his 19 goals already this season and heap more misery on Parma. The 37 year old has put in yet another outstanding campaign and finds himself just one goal shy of Carlos Tevez, Toni will be determined to find the back of the net in his hunt to bag the capoconnoniere. This fixture sees the worst and third worst defences come up against each other, so if Parma can find their shooting boots and Luca Toni continues his good form we could be in for a goal fest at the Tardini. Neither Roberto Donadoni nor Alberto Mandorlini have any new injury concerns going into this final fixture of the season, and will have full squads to choose from. The last time these sides met at the Bentegodi back in January the hosts ran out comfortable 3-1 winners thanks to goals from Jacopo Sala, Luca Toni and Mattia Valoti. With the future of this famous club still very much uncertain, It’s going to be an emotional afternoon in Parma, with plenty of tears and goodbyes as many players and fans part ways having stood side by side making it to the end of this emotionally charged season. #SaveParma Probable Line Up’s Parma: Mirante, Cassani, Mendes, Feddal, Gobbi, Varela, J.
