Luigi Apolloni will be hoping his side can keep up there impressive 100% record, his Parma side travel to the Stadio Pietro Zucchini on Sunday afternoon to take on Gianluca Luppi’s A.S.D. Mezzolara.
Apolloni’s table toppers are off to a flying start in their debut season winning four out the opening four games, finding the net 10 times and only conceding once, thanks to brilliance of club captain Alessandro Lucarelli and the exciting young Latvian goalkeeper Kristaps Zommers, keeping things tight at the back. Parma’s last outing saw them defeat Altovicentino 2-0 at the Tardini thanks to goals from Giacomo Ricci and Italian forward Daniele Melandri, despite being on top for most of the game Parma had Kristaps Zommers to thank for making a couple of crucial saves, in particular an acrobatic tip over the bar in the dying moments of the game. Gianluca Luppi and his Mezzolara squad will be expecting a gialloblu invasion this weekend as the people of the city of Parma are well and truly right behind the newly formed Parma Calcio 1913, with the enthusiastic fans turning out in their thousands to support Apolloni’s men whether it be home or away, it’s guaranteed there will be a sea of yellow and blue taking over the tiny Pietro Zucchini stadium come Sunday. While Parma were busy dealing with Altovicentino last Sunday afternoon, Mezzolara had the day off as their game away to Forli was postponed due parts of Italy being hit by extremely heavy rain last week. Luppi’s men will be itching to get their fresh legs back into action this weekend and will have the extra motivation that they host the side sitting pretty at the top of the table. With Mezzolara missing out last week they currently lie 11th having won one, lost one and drawn one ahead of Parma’s visit. Apolloni is expected to go into this one largely unchanged for this away trip, with pretty much a full squad to choose from, Parma are massive favourites to come away from this one with their perfect start to the season intact, there’s no reason they won’t return to Parma with all three points, if Lucarelli and Zommers continue they’re good form at the back and fans favourite veteran striker Cristian Longobardi can continue to find the net along with Daniele Melandri Parma should have no problems at all here. Parma Expected Starting XI Zommers, Adorni, Saporetti, Corapi, Cacioli, Lucarelli, Ricci, Giorgino, Longobardi, Baraye, Melandri. By Giovanni Dougall @giovannid86 @1913parmacalcio
